The Digital Switchover

Between 2008 and 2012 all television services in the UK will switch to a digital television service.
What this means is that the old broadcasting signal "Analogue" will be replaced with a digital signal. Any television set not converted when the switchover occurs will no longer receive television. The bad news is that if you currently have an analogue television signal it will need replacing in order to be digital ready. The good news is that once replaced you will have access to a lot more television and radio channels than ever before.

Freesat is the newest digital television service brought to you by the BBC and ITV Plc. The service began broadcasting on 6 May 2008 and offers a satellite equivalent to the FreeView service with a selection of channels available without subscription for users purchasing a receiver. Also the service makes use of the additional capacity available on digital satellite broadcasting to offer free high definition channels.

Freeview HD is a television service that offers HD channels available via your existing TV aerial, all for free. It's available in a set top box that you will need to connect to an HD Ready TV. Or, if you don't have an HD ready TV, then TVs with Freeview HD built in are also available very soon. Plus, you also get access to up to 50 SD digital channels and radio stations. And all for free.
